What we look for
Our group comprises people from physics, engineering, math, computer science, and biology.
- Comfort with probability and statistical mechanics, or a real appetite to build it
- Fluency in Python (or a willingness to get there quickly)
- Interest in reading experimental papers closely, not just the figures
- Patience for models that fail in informative ways
Our work often involves a combination of pen-on-paper derivations, coding, and talking with experimentalists about what their data can and cannot support.
Positions
PhD students
Admission is through a Yale graduate program, not directly through the lab. Apply to Biomedical Engineering or to the Combined Program in the Biological and Biomedical Sciences and name the lab in your statement. Rotations are welcome.

Postdocs
Inquiries are welcome whenever you are ready, whether or not a position is posted. Send a CV, a short description of what you have worked on, and a paragraph about the questions you want to work on next.
Support for fellowship applications is available and encouraged.
Undergraduates
Yale undergraduates can join for research credit, for a summer, or for a senior project. Previous students have gone on to graduate programs and to industry research roles.
Some programming experience helps. Enthusiasm helps more.
